Pantone Matching System (PMS)

Printing and Design Terms

A standardized color matching system widely used in design and printing to specify and reproduce consistent colors. The Pantone Matching System includes over 700 precisely defined colors, providing designers with swatches for accurate selection and giving printers the formulas ("recipes") needed to blend those colors accurately.

The system is independent of any specific ink brand, offering flexibility for printers to choose their preferred ink manufacturers while maintaining color consistency. PMS is essential for projects where exact color matching is critical, such as branding, packaging, and corporate materials, ensuring uniformity across various printing and production methods.
